Heritage Nature-Culture Outing

Thanks to our partnership with Parks Canada, La Navette Nature offers you patrimonial sites and villages surrounded by beautiful nature.

In May 1855, Louis-Joseph Papineau named his property “MonteBello,” and in 1878, the town was officially founded. The spirit of the Papineau family can still be felt at the Manor, in the family burial chapel and in the village, where history has been well preserved.

Suggestion from our staff

At Montebello, a chapter of 19th-century history will unfold in front of you: the vast seigneurial estate of Louis-Joseph Papineau, a major figure in Canadian politics. On these grounds stands an impressive manor surrounded by four towers and an orangery, as well as a grain barn, a family museum, and a vast garden that you can explore at your leisure.

To see at Manoir-Papineau :

Main floor : Step into the intimacy of the Papineau family by visiting the master bedroom, the chic dining room, and the grand yellow salon, rooms in the manor with authentic charm.
Family museum : Take a look at the portraits and travel mementos of the Papineau family hidden there.
Grain barn : Stop by this building dating back to 1855 where the lord's grain tributes were stored.

Places to visit in the village :

La Fromagerie Montebello : A renowned local cheese factory where you can taste and buy a variety of artisanal cheeses.
Chocomotive Chocolate Factory : Located in the old Montebello train station, this artisanal chocolate factory is known for its fine chocolates made from high-quality cocoa. Maybe you might even enjoy a tour of their workshop.
Café Entre Amis : Enjoy an excellent coffee and a friendly atmosphere on their terrace.
Montebello Brewers: A local microbrewery where you can taste unique craft beers.
La Shed Qui Tourne: Visit Suzanne Ryan's pottery workshop. Also serving as a boutique and exhibition hall, discover this captivating art and purchase unique pieces.
Montebello Heritage Circuit: Walk this 5 km (round trip) route, discovering step by step the life of a community that has left future generations a rich and vibrant historical heritage. Get the circuit map at the Montebello Tourist Information Office (Montebello Train Station).
